About the symposium
Why Jakarta is convening this forum, and what it sets out to produce.
Following the change in Jakarta's status under Law No. 2 of 2024, the city is moving into a new strategic role as a national economic centre and a global city. Its Long-Term Regional Development Plan 2025–2045 sets out the vision of a global, competitive, sustainable, and prosperous Jakarta, aiming to enter the Top 20 Global Cities by 2045.
As the city approaches its five-hundredth year, that ambition needs a solid foundation — growth that is not only competitive but resilient and inclusive. This makes the shift towards evidence-based governance essential, built on a close interaction between knowledge and policy.
The symposium is an initiative of the Regional Research and Innovation Centre (PRID) of Bappeda DKI Jakarta, delivered together with Sampoerna University, as a cross-sector platform for government, academia, research institutions, business, and international development partners. All sessions are conducted in English.
